A quarter of learning
Al-Bujairi is one of the historic districts of Diriyah, the capital of the First Saudi State, and faces at-Turaif to the west. Its ground lies low, so it tended to fill with water from the surrounding valleys; first called al-Bujari, the name was later shortened, in the Najdi way, to al-Bujairi.
In the days of the First Saudi State the quarter was a centre of knowledge. The Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Mosque gathered books and drew students and scholars, and the mud-built al-Dhuwaihra Mosque, from the same era, has been restored.
The view that made a terrace
From al-Bujairi the eye falls on Salwa Palace, Beit al-Mal and the at-Turaif Mosque, a view that gave rise to the idea of Bujairi Terrace. On 9 April 2015 King Salman inaugurated the al-Bujairi Quarter Development Project, which upgraded the district's services and brought in restaurants and cafés.
The same day he laid the cornerstone of the Samhan Heritage Hotel. The rebuilt quarter gathers the Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulwahhab Cultural Foundation, the two historic mosques, Diriyah Park and al-Bujairi Square.
