Dhi Ayn, the village on the white mountain

Eighty-five stone houses from the sixteenth century, watered by the spring that gave the village its name.

The village

Dhi Ayn lies in al-Makhwah Governorate in the Al-Baha Region, about 25 km from the city of al-Baha. It sits on top of a rocky white mountain overlooking the Rash valley, and dates back to the sixteenth century.

About eighty-five multi-storey houses, some of them five storeys high, are built of volcanic rock and hard granite, with mud and mud-brick inside and quartz set into the outer walls. A small mosque stands among them.

The spring

The village takes its name from the spring, the ayn, that flows down from the mountains. Its water irrigates kadhi and other aromatic plants, as well as lemons and bananas.
