The project
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced Qiddiya on 7 April 2017 as part of Vision 2030, and King Salman laid its foundation on 28 April 2018. It is overseen by Qiddiya Investment Company, wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund.
The site lies about 45 km from central Riyadh on a slope of the Tuwaiq range, which serves as the project's official icon. Of its 376 km², about 30 percent is to be built, and the rest left as natural land.
What it holds
The master plan, drawn up with Bjarke Ingels Group, divides Qiddiya into five zones: Resort Core, Qiddiya Village, Eco Zone, Motion Zone and Golf Community. Six Flags Qiddiya covers 320,000 m² with 28 rides across six lands, and a water theme park covers 252,000 m² with 23 rides.
The Motion Zone includes an FIA Grade 1 track, and the golf community an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The project expects about 17 million visitors a year by 2030.
