Jeddah's waterfront, a city turned to the sea

Promenades, beaches and an island walkway along the Red Sea, opened stretch by stretch over a decade.

ROSHN Waterfront

Jeddah's main seafront, now known as ROSHN Waterfront, was redeveloped and reopened in 2017. It covers about 730,000 m², can welcome some 120,000 people at once, and receives about fifty-five million visitors a year.

Its green spaces exceed 275,000 m², and its swimming beaches, guarded by breakwaters and five watchtowers, hold 10,000 bathers. There is a marina, and a pedestrian bridge 650 m long, which Saudipedia records as the longest in the Kingdom.

From the north to the centre

Off the Northern Corniche, Al-Nawras Island runs 1,000 m long and 30 to 70 m wide, with restaurants, cafés, a marina and a walkway one kilometre long. The Northern Corniche opened in December 2012 and the 3.6 km Central Corniche in April 2013.

Dahaban Park followed in September 2015, and al-Saif Beach, covering 252,000 m², in February 2016. Next on the drawing board is the South Obhur Beachfront, 2.8 km long and more than 180,000 m², whose designs the municipality unveiled in January 2021 under the Humanized Cities initiative of Vision 2030.
